OAK REDEFINED
WINNER – Best Stand, Denfair 2019
WINNER – RISING STAR 2019 Timber Design Awards
Commissioned by the American Harwood Export Council for DENFair 2019 – OAK REDEFINED showcased the potential of American red oak across furniture, architecture and design in collaboration with EvoStyle and Marcus Piper Studio.
The brief called for a space that, unlike other stands at trade shows was not specifically trying to sell anything – but rather educate. The response looked to create a space to recharge – both phones, laptops and mentally. The design aimed to explore different facets of American Red Oak. The entire stand is made from Red Oak in different formats, including thermally modified and ebonised variants.
Slatted timber screens provided a sense of respite from the noise and hubbub of the trade show, while still allowing for porosity to keep your eye on what was happening around.
Traditional joinery and subtly sculpted elements showed the power of working with solid hardwood timbers, creating defined seats and curved benchtops for working at laptops.
